Blog Tour: Make It Last by Megan Erickson (Giveaway!)

Bowler University, #3
After graduating from Bowler University, the last place Cam Ruiz ever expected to find himself is his hometown. A bad job as a bouncer and worry over his mom’s health make living in Paradise anything but. There’s only one thing that can make his return any harder—running into the only girl he’s ever loved.

Tate Ellison made a mistake when she was eighteen, one that cost her the best thing she’s ever had. She’s always hoped the regret of losing Cam would fade over time. Too bad it’s only grown. She took comfort in the fact she’d never have to face him again, so his presence in Paradise throws her for a loop.

The pull between them is instant and when the truth of what happened years ago tumbles out, they share a mind-blowing kiss...which leads to more. But the past has a way of repeating itself. When all the cards are on the table, Cam and Tate must decide what they are willing to do to make it last.

The Bowler University books have been one fun, heartwarming read after another, and Make It Last was a great way to complete the series! I've adored Megan Erickson's voice, the way she brings her characters to life, and while that style has carried all the way through the series, Make It Last still had a way of standing out on its own. For me, the mood was much more nostalgic, more sentimental. Kat and Alec were the sweet, tender beginning in Make It Count, Max and Lea were the exciting middle in Make It Right, and now, Cam and Tate are the hard-fought, satisfying finish. It feels like graduation day, looking back at all they've been through, knowing it was worth it because of what they learned and what they gained. Never forgetting your first love. Growing up and learning from past mistakes. Fighting for a second chance. Following your dreams. I think Megan captured those milestones, from youth to adulthood, beautifully.
That first taste of Tate was everything. Hot summers in the backseats of cars and licking drips of ice cream off her wrists and true, first real love.

She'd been everything to him. And now that he tasted her again, he knew that had never changed.
Even though Max and Lea are pretty untouchable as my favorite couple, and therefore a tough act to follow, I still loved Cam and Tate! There are certainly layers to get through with Camilo Ruiz. Cam was a player in college, using girls to bury memories of the first one he ever loved and the first one to break his heart, but what happens when he finally sees Tate again and those memories come right back up to the surface? This return to his hometown opens readers' eyes to what's at his core: a strong, loyal, and deeply loving side. Tate, who should be the target of a lot of bitter anger, made a decision years ago that tore them apart. Yet, once I knew her side of things and understood the whole picture, I couldn't help but feel sympathy for her! Her circumstances are easy to relate to, to connect with. And much like Cam, she's caring and willing to sacrifice for the ones she loves. Their selflessness is what stood out the most to me, and it was one of those admirable qualities that far outweigh the flaws, something Megan has done such a fantastic job of integrating into her stories!

It was an emotional road for Cam and Tate, and I easily found myself wrapped up in the journey--the wistful longing after seeing each other again after so many years, the return of friendship, an old flame getting a new spark. Irritation may have flared along the way. I wanted to eye-roll and forehead-smack...a couple of times. They could be stubborn and immature! But, I also found myself laughing and adoring their comfortable banter. Megan captured that familiarity so well, like slipping on your favorite tshirt. It feels warm and natural. And, Cam & Tate were definitely the most intimate of all the BU couples. Megan ups the sexy factor in this book! Steamy scenes were steeeaam-my. *cough* "Ride me, Tatum." *cough* I loved their chemistry! They knew each others in's and out's. They were lovers and best friends.

*sigh* I missed the rest of the BU group, though! I craved more of those fun group scenes that showed their dynamic! However, Megan still gives us an interesting cast in Cam and Tate's story, bringing in some new faces.  Family has been a huge part of this series and is especially so in Make It Last! Megan writes these relationships just as well as she does friendships, whether it's a parent, a sibling, or a friend that has been there like a sibling. Certain relationships also highlighted how hard it is to step away from home, from what you've known for so long, and to step toward being your own person, toward living your own life. It highlights the weight and pressure that Cam and Tate were both feeling, the sense of responsibility that comes with "becoming an adult" and figuring out the future. This couple shows what it's like to keep going, to fight for a balance, and to find that compromise.
"I needed to prove something to you. That I was worth it."
"I always knew you were worth it. I needed you to believe you were worth it."
Ultimately, I finished this book with a big dopey grin on my face! I truly felt happy with how far each character had come--the messes they made and had to learn from while they cleaned it all up. I saw a stronger, happier, and more hopeful group at the end. Remember how I said I was missing the rest of the BU gang??? Well, the sweetest ending was waiting for me that whole time! ;) I love how after all of the turmoil and all of the obstacles, their personalities, their hearts and their dreams, really do get to shine. Bowler University is a wonderfully bright New Adult series, and Make It Last is the happy ending that everyone deserves!

Kat Caruso wishes her brain had a return policy, or at least a complaint hot-line. The defective organ is constantly distracted, terrible at statistics, and absolutely flooded with inappropriate thoughts about her boyfriend’s gorgeous best friend, Alec…who just so happens to be her brand new math tutor. Who knew nerd was so hot?

Kat usually goes through tutors like she does boyfriends—both always seem to bail when they realize how hopeless she is. It’s safer for her heart to keep everyone at arm’s reach. But Alec is always stepping just a little too close.

Alec Stone should not be fantasizing about Kat. She’s adorable, unbelievably witty, and completely off limits. He’d never stab his best friend in the back…

But when secrets are revealed, the lines of loyalty are blurred. To make it count, Alec must learn messy human emotions can’t be solved like a trigonometry function. And Kat has to trust Alec may be the first guy to want her for who she is, and not in spite of it.

Max Payton lives by two rules:
Size and strength win any fight, and never show weakness.

When a rash of assaults sends Bowler University for a tail spin, Max volunteers to help teach a self-defense class. One of the other instructors is the beautiful pixie-faced girl he keeps butting heads with…and who challenges everything he thought he knew.

Lea Travers avoids guys like Max - cocky jocks who assume she's fragile because of a disability caused by a childhood accident. She likes to be in control, and something about being with Max makes her feel anything but. But during the moments he lets his guard down, Lea sees a soul as broken inside as she is outside. Trusting him is a whole other problem...

When the assaults ramp up and hit close to home, Lea and Max must learn, before it’s too late, that true strength can come from vulnerability…and giving in to trust is sometimes the only way to make things right.

Megan Erickson grew up in a family that averages 5’5” on a good day and started writing to create characters who could reach the top kitchen shelf.

She’s got a couple of tattoos, has a thing for gladiators and has been called a crazy cat lady. After working as a journalist for years, she decided she liked creating her own endings better and switched back to fiction.

She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, two kids and two cats. And no, she still can’t reach the stupid top shelf.
