Blog Tour: Easy Virtue by Mia Asher

Aaahhh, so excited to talk about Easy Virtue on the blog today! Check out my review--why I loved the sinfully sexy Blaire White--and the giveaway for a signed set of books from author Mia Asher!

Virtue, #1
Love is selfish...

My name is Blaire.
I'm the bad girl.
The other woman.
The one who never gets the guy in the end.

I'm the gold digger.
The bitch.
The one no one roots for.
The one you love to hate.

I hate myself too...

Everyone has a story. Are you ready for mine?

Mia Asher weaves a provocative and alluring tale in Easy Virtue. She introduces us to Blaire White, a refreshingly flawed and far-from-traditional heroine. Blaire is cynical, yet captivatingly bold and honest. She's a few different sins all rolled into one, but she's unapologetic and unflinching when it comes to the lifestyle she leads. She hunts for wealth--men who will keep her bank account full, provide luxury--and her body is her best weapon. She'll test the limits of your comfort zone, what you consider right and wrong, what's easy and what's necessary. All you have to do is sit back and watch it unravel, in all it's deliciously scandalous glory!
I like money. I like power. I like adoration. I like sex.
She plays the role of calculating gold digger well, the type that most would love to criticize in the real world, but the author beckoned me into Blaire's world and just made me love her. Standout writing created a sleek, sultry, and riveting point of view. I love when the storytelling has that smooth flow, but the words have a distinct bite! You want to sit up and pay attention to what she's saying. (The vibe had shades of Bang by E.K. Blair and Black Lies by Alessandra Torre, to me! Two of my favorite reads this year!)
Many say that love will set you free, but I is a cage, a very painful one; its gilded bars made with yearning, heartache, and unfulfilled dreams. And the moment I realized that love wasn't necessary to one's survival, I became free. No one would have the power to hurt me again...And whatever was left of my heart, I surrounded it with so many thorns and spikes that if you ever came anywhere near it, I would willingly and happily hurt you.
If you're wondering how you're supposed to root for a character like this, Blaire's history is carefully constructed. We're given pieces of her past and all of the things that shaped and formed her into a well-oiled man-eating machine. She was complex and intriguing. Sometimes she elicited shock, but other times, she drew out sympathy and curiosity. Because beneath the beautifully made-up veneer, beneath her cold, superficial mask, there's a warmer, more vulnerable side to Blaire. A human side that she's kept hidden away for a long time. Until she finally meets someone who unlocks that side of her.
I lift a hand to trace my lips and realize that I'm smiling. And this is when the butterflies kick in. Fuck.

I'm screwed.
I loved this shift in her dynamic! There was something genuinely sweet, carefree, and innocent about this new relationship. Blaire, denied of true love and affection for years, let her heart out of its cage for a little while. She allowed herself to enjoy it. It was a change--a stark contrast--that I definitely felt, and didn't just read. It wasn't devoid of emotion, like with previous men, but passionate and sensual. Then...*sigh* you'll see this coming...fear and habit harden her all over again. She convinces herself to move on. It's selfish, ruthless, and cold. I wanted to get mad at her, to pound sense into her. But, again, the storytelling was just too mesmerizing. I could only follow Blaire along for the ride because it was far from over!
I can sense that there is an animal, a very dangerous predator hiding underneath the expensive and civilized clothes he wears; an untamed wildness about him. He is mystery and darkness. And I have an inkling that many a woman before me have fallen for the illusion that she could be the one to tame him, only to be disappointed when she fails miserably.
As I said in the beginning, Blaire is not a traditional kind of girl. And this book is not a traditional kind of love story.  Throughout the book, you'll see Blaire with different men. Blaire may have ended up finding someone she could give her heart to, someone who could make her feel again, but it wasn't enough. And the next guy in line? He's a match for Blaire in a completely different way. Mia Asher saved the most indulgent encounter for last! This was raw, filthy, and feverish. It was temptation and reckless abandon.
"Do you pray...?"
He takes a sip before answering me, unfazed by the drastic change of subject. "I don't. You?"

"I used to until I realized God is deaf. Now every time I kneel, it isn't to pray."

His quiet laughter fills the room. "If the devil were a woman and had a name, I believe it would be Blaire."
I consumed every word, loved it, but at one point, I finally started to wonder...Where exactly is this going? What road exactly is Blaire supposed to be headed down? Who is she supposed to end up with??? I devoured this book all in one night, addicted, every page turn feeding my fascination. Until at last, I got my answer...Sort of...Easy Virtue ends with a surprise, folks, but it's definitely a twist that made me go Damn! I have to know what happens next!

Now, I'm hooked! I'm ready for more! Evocative writing. Characters that demand your attention. Mia Asher had me completely wrapped up in this story, from start to finish, and I can't wait for the next book!
