Book Review: Ruin & Rule by Pepper Winters

Pure Corruption MC, #1
"We met in a nightmare. The in-between world where time had no power over reason. We fell in love. We fell hard. But then we woke up. And it was over . . ."

She is a woman divided. Her past, present, and future are as twisted as the lies she's lived for the past eight years. Desperate to get the truth, she must turn to the one man who may also be her greatest enemy . . .

He is the president of Pure Corruption MC. A heartless biker and retribution-deliverer. He accepts no rules, obeys no one, and lives only to reap revenge on those who wronged him. And now he has stolen her, body and soul.

Can a woman plagued by mystery fall in love with the man who refuses to face the truth? And can a man drenched in darkness forgo his quest for vengeance-and finally find redemption?

As a big fan of Pepper Winters already, Ruin & Rule just made me fall even deeper for her lyrical style of writing. I was utterly enthralled by her words. This first dive into the world of the Pure Corruption MC is a rough ride, gritty and intense. Once again, she portrayed such vivid and blazing emotions!
I worried my heart would never find a normal rhythm again.
The story revolves around a mysterious woman and her unclear connection to the president of Pure Corruption, Arthur 'Kill' Killian. This woman has no memory of her past--not even her name--but bound and helpless, she arrives in the clutches of this biker gang as nothing more than a body to sell. When she happens to save Kill's life, though, that one night is a spark, where things about her and Kill begin to come to light. I was incredibly intrigued, right from the start!

With vibrant tattoos and scars all over her body, taunting her with a history she can't remember, this mystery woman is surprisingly calm, thinks about all of the details around her, and more importantly, stays determined. She's desperate for answers and believes that Killian is the key to unlocking them.
"Some things are better left in the dark."
Pepper has a way of making your heart beat like crazy, even for the dangerous guy, the cutthroat and ruthless kind. Her words lull you until you just surrender and can't help but give in to that dark side. ;) As the leader of his motorcycle club, Killian is intelligent and meticulous, only trusting a select few. As the man beneath the leather jacket, he's this tortured soul with a blackened heart, his bitter rage just waiting to be let out at any second. And yet, I was so drawn to his pain, to his rough edges, to his ever-present anger pulsing hot and menacing. I wanted to know what made him this way. I wanted to know all of the why's and how's.
"Obey my next request and I'll treat you like a queen rather than a whore. Whatever I take from you, I'll give back tenfold." His fingers kissed my cheek, sending icicles to my heart. "I'll worship you all while I destroy you."
And when he was with her? I was hanging on every word! Their connection was so raw and fierce! (Some of the filthy words that came from Killian's mouth. Damn. *shivers*) As they spent more time together, it evolved from something brutal and filthy, to something deeply intimate and passionate, with a possessive edge. He goes from hating her to cherishing her. *grabs a fan and cold water* When I say that this is a rough ride, it is a rough ride. This is the kind of love that had to rise from pain and darkness.
My lips parted as I breathed hard, my knees digging into the covers as Killian rocked viciously. He was the opposite of caring, the polar eclipse of gentle, yet he made my heart spread its atrophied wings and fly.
As the story continued, I loved how her memories came in flashes! Everything begins locked behind a barricade, but then tiny pieces were slowly let out of the box. Those deliberate reveals were so gripping! Every word on the page added to the tightening rope, pulling you in, making the story inescapable. I felt so completely woven into the point of view of the characters. I instantly absorbed their emotions, what they did, what they saw.
He smiled sadly. "If what you say is true, then my life just got even more fucked up and the nightmare has only just begun.

I trembled with foreboding. "What nightmare?"
There are so many layers to this novel. Things get more and more complicated. Secrets, lies, and betrayals are uncovered. Many of the answers you sought from the beginning come to the surface, and then some, and I loved that feeling of fragments clicking into place, the bigger picture gradually coming into focus. Then, just when I thought I could get comfortable, or thought I knew what was going on, Pepper made it even more interesting. More questions were raised. I thought this would end one way, only to be lead down a different path, with a horrible realization waiting at the end. I was left with that ominous feeling in my gut, knowing that the worst is yet to come! (*Yes, that's a cliffhanger alert.)
Pain came in many forms. Loneliness. Betrayal. Sacrifice. But I'd found love to be the most painful of all.
I'll be anxiously awaiting the conclusion to this series! Pepper Winters delivered another intensely emotional whirlwind, an addictive page-turner that kept my head spinning and my heart racing! It's not for everyone. No flowers, rainbows, or fluff here. But if you want your next read to be a bit darker, full of twists and turns, this book will not disappoint. I'll repeat: Ruin & Rule just made me fall even deeper for Pepper's lyrical style of writing. The words will mesmerize you, make you want to delve a little deeper into these characters' chaotic worlds and follow along on their crazy journey. It's mystery and a complex love story, and it needs to be on your list of must-reads!
