Book Review: Tight by Alessandra Torre

I was happy in my small town. In my life as a single, thirty-two year old woman. I had a good job, wonderful friends, my independence.

I also hadn't got laid in three years. Hadn't been on a date in two. Had stopped counting calories and wearing makeup... a while ago.

Then Brett Jacobs waltzed in. Caressed my thigh, dug rough fingers into my hair, lowered his soft mouth to my skin, took sexual control of my mind and stirred it all around with what he packed in his pants. He flipped my quiet life upside down and crawled into a place in my heart I thought was dead.

The issue is his secret.
The issue is her.
The issue is that I don't even know she exists, and he thinks she's dead.
The issue is that shit is about to hit the fan and I can't hold on to him tight enough.

I've now read three novels by Alessandra Torre, and she's quickly become one of my go-to authors for a sultry and riveting read. She delivered an absolute knockout with Black Lies last year, and I've been eagerly awaiting her next release! So when it finally landed in my grabby little hands???

Unf. You guys... *satisfied groan*

Tight was a true testament to its title, gripping me fiercely and not letting go until the very last page. Once again, this author completely owned me with her story! Another stunner! The writing had such an irresistible finesse and allure to it. After what I just experienced, I've come to the conclusion that Alessandra Torre is a genius. A genius, cunning queen of erotic thrillers!
His face darkened, the grin disappearing as intensity stole back over. "I'm not joking, Riley. About having you."

I watched his eyes, the shudder in them as they looked from my lips to my eyes to the door. All minute twitches of his pupils, his head unmoving, his entire body so still it could have been made of steel. Controlled intensity. I didn't doubt his words. I also knew that there was no way I could say anything but yes to this man. My body wouldn't allow any other response. "Then take me."
Riley Johnson is a simple Southern woman living a quiet existence. Brett Jacobs, on the other hand, is a wealthy, successful, and jet-setting yacht salesman. While Riley is in the Bahamas for her best friend's bachelorette party, their paths cross and sparks fly. Torre has always been able to create such crazy chemistry between her characters, and Riley and Brett are another prime example! She captures the lust, the infatuation, so intensely!

There's also something sweet and comforting about this couple, an ease I felt while they connected beyond just one night and fell for each other. Cute banter. Romantic gestures. Exotic locales. *satisfied sigh* A real relationship developed, and it felt damn near perfect.
His mouth twitched. "What a sad soul I'd make, hopelessly lost in unrequited love, tied to a girl with a police chief father."

"It may be reciprocated," I mumbled.

"What's that?"

"Maybe. Maybe I do have feelings for you."

"Maybe," he repeated. "Maybe you love me?"

"Yes. Kinda."
But Torre doesn't just give you delightful romance, she contrasts that joy with something darker and menacing brewing in the background. Let's go back and read that blurb again, shall we? "The issue is his secret." There's a little knife, inserted from the very beginning, and every once in awhile, you feel that twinge telling you something's off. Something's not right. Until Torre finally pulls it out and lets the answers you've been waiting on bated breath for flow. I had my guesses and theories, of course, but the details and the words have a way of leading you exactly where Torre wants you to go, making you feel what she wants you to in that moment. I couldn't help but get swept up in all of it!
I was too afraid of what I didn't know. Too afraid that, if I thought about it hard enough, I'd find something wrong and I didn't want to damage the first true love I had ever had.
This isn't a dark romance, but as the book progresses, darker/heavier subjects are introduced. Like when swimmers are cautioned before jumping into a river, it looks calm and harmless on the surface, but there's a dangerous current lying underneath. This is where the author's plot-genius really shines. Torre is a master at unraveling a reader, putting the countdown in your head, making you wait for the wrecking ball to come through! I was so tempted to flip ahead and safely find out the ending. *whimpers* I was trying to keep my heart and brain calm enough to finish reading the book, everything going haywire! BUT...When it hit me, when I realized exactly what I've been reading, when I saw the whole picture...*throws hands up in the air* I loved it!!!
The word 'tight' has twenty-two definitions, but my favorite is Webster's fifth--"a bond which cannot be broken."
It's unconventional, but for all of its twists and turns, there is resolution. There is light at the end. Torre takes a love story, twists it just right and roughs it up around the edges, but still leaves something beautiful in the center. Tight is about one woman's resilience and sheer willpower, about two people's unwavering bond, and about how love can help you endure, even in your darkest moments. Captivating. Passionate. Climactic. I loved reading this book, and I can't wait to see what this author comes up with next!
