Blog Tour: All I Want by J. Daniels

The Alabama Summer series continues! You met Officer Benjamin Kelly in Where I Belong, and now you get to know more about his partner, Officer Luke Evans in All I Want! Check out my review, a teaser, and a giveaway. :)

Alabama Summer, #2
Luke Evans is a heartbreaker.

I didn’t want to give mine to him. Not when he kept me out.

He gave me enough, just enough to make me fall in love with him. I say this to convince myself. But I know the truth.

I would’ve fallen in love with him at a distance.

Handing my heart over to Luke was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. I was naive when I wished for more, when I hoped he wanted the same things I did.

I try to hate him. I try to forget him.

But it’s not that easy.

Love is a ruthless bitch, and I’m her latest victim.
Tessa Kelly is a man-eater.

When she sets her sights on you, she doesn’t just consume your heart, she goes for your soul.

What we had was perfect, real, and all I would ever want.

But she destroyed it.

She destroyed us.

I try to hate her. I try to forget her.

But it’s not that easy.

Love is for people who have hope, and I have none.

Luke and Tessa had a good thing going, a relationship that they thought was just right for both of them, until a pregnancy scare blew their world apart and pushed questions about their future to the surface. All I Want picks up one year after that bad breakup and tells the story of two people still fighting through a lot of anger and frustration. The question is: Is it hate they're really feeling? And can they fight for a second chance?

Tessa Kelly. Feisty. Always has something sassy to say. I really liked her in book one, Where I Belong, so I was excited to get her point of view in All I Want! If you're all about bold, headstrong heroines, I think you're going to like Tessa! A part of me loved her backtalk and the witty things she'd come up with. However, there was also a part of me that found her attitude a little too abrasive in certain scenes. When it came to other women that Luke had been with, or women that could be seen as competition, her words didn't always rub me the right way. Tessa definitely had a mean streak in her, but it made watching those tough walls come down, as the story progressed, even more satisfying. And Luke Evans? The dirty talkin', tattooed, alpha cop...who happens to love munching on cookie dough? *swoon* He was also just as stubborn. Just as guarded. He drove me just as crazy as Tessa did! ;)
I don't know why they call it heartbreak when every bone in your body seems affected. The pain isn't stagnant in the center of my chest. It radiates out, then back in, pulsing at an unforgiving rhythm.

There was so much push and pull with this couple. One minute, I was fanning myself because their chemistry was insane and hot damn Daniels can write steeeamy scenes. Then, the next minute, I wanted to smack sense into one or both of them. It was definitely a more angst and tension filled ride than any other couple that Daniels has written. I could really feel the animosity during arguments and confrontations, and I loved that the pain and torment was written just as well as the sexy, funny, and snarky bits.

I really enjoyed the character development in this book. Where I Belong was shorter and, accordingly, felt a little fast-tracked. All I Want, though, gave Luke in particular a lot of backstory through his point of view. I loved getting to see behind the broody mask, everything that made him so closed off to love and deeper relationships! Daniels did a great job of making me feel for Luke and making me understand his circumstances. Ultimately, the Luke we end up with is a different one than the Luke we started with.

He claims my mouth, roughly, his day-old stubble burning my skin while his hands form to my face. He's giving me that helpless side of him I only get to see in moments like this, and it's exactly what I need. It's such a contrast to the Luke everyone knows, the self-possessed man who doesn't look like he'd know the first thing about being gentle. But he does. When he breaks like this, when he loses control and gives me this perfect combination of wild and sweet, I become the defenseless one, willing to hand over my heart, unprotected, for a simple kiss.

I definitely had some feels while reading this book! *bites fist* Those tugs at my heartstrings and the little knife twists! It wasn't limited to scenes between Luke and Tessa, either. There were tender scenes with best friends, with family...Once again, Daniels created an incredible supporting cast for the main couple. I absolutely adore...*ADORE*...Luke and Ben's friendship. Officer Kelly and Officer Evans, partners together forever please! Mia's caring, motherly soul really shines this time around, and Reed makes me for real laugh out loud. I actually noted during most of his scenes: "I hope Reed gets his own book!" And last, but certainly not least, Sir Nolan brightened up every scene he was in and was just the cutest thing!

So, after all of the battling, all of the bouncing between love and hate, there is sweet and satisfying relief. These were strong-willed characters, who learned to drop their defenses and let someone in, to figure out what they really want in life and to not hold back. They learned about trust, love, family... I was happy with how Luke and Tessa's book wrapped up, and I hope we get to see more of happy Luke and Tessa as the series continues! *prayer hands*

"Do you love me today?" I ask as he tilts my head to taste the skin of my neck. My eyes fall closed when he pushes inside me, filling me, owning me.

My name breaks apart the moan that rumbles in his throat. "Yes," he answers, pressing the word into my cheek. "I love you. Every day."

I love J. Daniels' blend of humor and heart, sweet and sexy, tender and rough. I truly enjoy whatever J. Daniels writes, and I look forward to many, many more books from this author!!
