Ready to Fall
Modern Love Stories, #2
| +Goodreads |
When you fall, you fall hard...
Readers first fell in love with John Day as the hot next-door neighbor in Romantic Comedy Best Seller Geoducks Are for Lovers. Tall, dark, and handsome is an understatement. With the beard, a dog named Babe, and his ever present plaid shirt, John is a modern lumberjack in more ways than one.
Lurking beneath the flannel and beard could be the heart of a romantic. Or is John a wolf in flannel clothing?
After his favorite neighbor rents out her cabin for the winter, John finds himself playing fireman and tour guide to Diane Watson, a beautiful brunette with her own messy past and recent battle scars. When an ex shows up unexpectedly, their lives will be changed forever.
Will he be ready to fall in love? Or will he fall back into his old, flirty ways?
Hold onto your heart... and get ready to fall with John Day as he tells his story in this contemporary romance/romantic comedy told in male POV.

4.5 STARS

It was an utter delight to read about John Day and Diane! That's the best way I can put it. This is one sweeping love story that covers all of the bases. With squees and awws and happy sighs all lined up for you in one blissful trail, it's an effortless read. There was just enough drama and tension to keep things interesting, but I was never down for too long.

I truly felt like this book was a getaway, and I love when an author can just transport you to anywhere they want. With every description of the landscape and the different towns, Whidbey Island and the surrounding Pacific Northwest seemed like another world. But not in a touristy vacation way. This was a heart-soothing, feel-good getaway.

And what about the "modern alpha male lumberjack" that calls Whidbey Island home? I adored John Day. This is his book after all. (And yes, when I refer to him, it needs to be first and last name...I just like saying John Day...) Although he has a reputation with women...the whole-nine- "I don't do relationships and I'm a flirt"-yards...that's all on the surface. Thanks to the story coming from the male POV, you know every reason why John Day is the way he is. There's some history there that you might not be expecting...He might try to convince you that he's an asshole, but not for a second will you want to believe it. Underneath the rough edges and the beard is a genuine guy with strong roots. (Assholes don't take care of their neighbors and have family dinners on Sundays, John Day! I see what you really are!)

But, aaahhh, for the good part. The romance. I called it "sweeping" for a good reason! The awkward first meeting, the easy flow of their teasing-yet-casual banter, the get-to-know-you phase, and a healthy dose of hot, hot chemistry...John Day and Diane had all the things about book love that induce that kind of cheek-numbing smile. I laughed (whiskey-drunk Diane is the best Diane), stopped to fan myself, and full-on squee'd throughout this book. (Officer and a Gentleman tour?! Officer and a Gentleman tour!)

If you're looking for a complete story that will leave you content and satisfied, then get Ready to Fall. Get some John Day in your life. I loved the characters, the humor, and the easygoing feel. I just enjoyed it. You might not be sure if a lumberjack is "your thing," but trust me, you'll want the beard...the pancake breakfasts...and the camping. ;)

EXCERPT

Speaking with her mouth full, she mumbled, “Meese are smoo goob.”

“Meese? Goob?” I repeated while attempting to translate in my head.

She held up a finger and finished chewing. My eyes focused on her mouth while she licked the syrup off her fingers. “I said these are so good. I never figured you for a man who could cook.”

“Pancakes aren’t cooking. I use the box stuff.” I shrugged. “My cooking abilities are limited. Trust me.”

“No need to get defensive. Not calling your masculinity into question. Certainly not after last night.”

I smirked at her. “Don’t forget this morning.”

She lowered her eyes to her plate and swirled her finger through the pool of syrup. “Oh, I haven’t forgotten.” Her tongue licked the tip of her finger before she sucked the tip into her mouth.

“Fuck.” My cock twitched.

“What?” she asked innocently, but her motives were splashed across her face.

“You know exactly what.”

“What are you going to do about it?” A giggle burst from her mouth in a whoosh when I picked her up off the stool and lifted her onto the counter. “Oh, well then, carry on …”

I lowered my mouth to hers. She tasted of syrup and bacon and her—the perfect combination. Her chin was sticky with sweetness, so I licked it.

“You smell of syrup. I think it’s my new favorite scent.” I moved down her neck to kiss the skin peeking out from my shirt she wore. “Mmm … it’s my new favorite taste, too.” I kissed her again. And again.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

 | Website | Author Goodreads | Facebook | Twitter |

Before writing funny contemporary romances about adults, I dreamed of being an author while doing a lot of other things. Antiques dealer, baker, blue ribbon pie-maker, fangirl, freelance writer, gardener, pet mom and wife are a few of the titles I’ve acquired along the way. Born and raised in San Diego, my husband and I currently live in a real life Stars Hollow in the Boston suburbs with our dog, Hubbell, and an imaginary house goat who remains nameless. Ready to Fall, my second novel, features John Day, the hot, sexy neighbor in my debut novel Geoducks Are for Lovers. Both can be read as stand-alones. I’m busy writing my next novel,
which will not feature any bivalves.
